Embracing a New Chapter

Change isn’t always an easy thing. As you all know, we welcomed our second baby boy to the world. This also welcomed a whole new set of challenges. Don’t get me wrong, I appreciate the chance to enjoy and embrace this new chapter in life, but it isn’t always easy.

I remember a time before kids where I could hop on a horse and go to work or jump in the tractor to help with haying or feeding cows without thinking twice about it. Ranching is truly my passion and I enjoy nothing more than being able to do that. However, I’ve entered a new chapter in life: the Mommy Chapter. Its one that brings me the most abundant joy but also one of the most difficult jobs I’ve ever had.

I no longer have the ability to just run out of the house to help work cows. I now have to make sure I have the diaper bag, extra clothes, baby carrier, snacks for the toddler, sunscreen, stroller, and so much more. As that has been a tough pill to swallow, I’ve learned to embrace this chapter and try my best to enjoy every minute with the littles.

The second baby doesn’t bring as much of new and scary things as the first might, but you forget how limiting things are in the beginning. With Max being two and a half, he is easy to pack up and take along with us for all things on the ranch. He’s older, very independent, and loves getting to tag along. Things are definitely harder with a newborn and I don’t like feeling like I can’t help out as much as I should. As much as I would like to think that this change is a breeze, I often struggle with feeling like I’m not doing enough. Thankfully my husband is great and reminds me that the job I’m doing at home is the most important job I could have, so I shouldn’t worry as much about the ranch work right now.

This time in life is extremely demanding on a mom. I have to remind myself that doing something for myself every once in a while is also still important. Often times, I don’t remember who I am right now. I’m too busy nursing, wiping butts, chasing a toddler, cooking, and cleaning. Remembering to get a small break to myself every now and then really helps me feel like “me” again. Whether its getting a quick workout in or taking my horse out for a ride or even just doing some chores on my own, I always feel refreshed and ready to take care of my babies again.

So a friendly reminder to all mommas out there, you are doing a great job and don’t forget to do some of the little things for yourself! Its important to take care of ourselves and fill our own tanks in order for us to take care of our babies.

Time is a thief, so remember to embrace the new chapter in life and find the good with each stage!
